YEMIS ODASI
A stylized still life: a bowl of fruit and flowers painted onto ceramic. It depicts what it was made to hold and is full before it is used. Ceramic is both image and support.
The title refers to the Fruit Room (Yemis Odasi), a chamber in the Harem of Topkapi Palace built for Sultan Ahmed III in the early 1700s, where painted wooden panels show bowls of fruit and vases of flowers. Here the motif moves from painted wood to ceramic.
